2015: One of the WETTEST Years on Record!

Image
The above data from the NWS in Memphis shows the Top 10 wettest years on record for Jonesboro, AR. As of 9:00 am on 12/27/15, we have had 61.65" of rainfall for 2015. That puts us in the 9th wettest year on record. I fully expect us to get at least another inch of rain tonight and tomorrow, which would put us in 8th wettest year. There's a chance that we could get even more than 1.00". We will watch this closely over the next few days. EDIT: WE WILL END 2015 AS THE SIXTH WETTEST YEAR ON RECORD. Ryan

Flooding and Severe Storms Possible December 26-28

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you are having a great day with family and friends. It's hard to believe that 3 years ago, we were preparing for a blizzard! We will be keeping a close watch on Region 8 rivers over the next few days. Flash flooding is my main concern, but severe weather is also possible. Heaviest rain will occur from Sunday morning into Monday morning. The highest rain totals will likely be in the NW parts of Region 8. Severe storms are possible on Sunday and Monday morning, but the tornado threat is low. 3-6" of rain is possible between now and Monday at lunch. OK, let's look at some data! Models are not completely agreeing on rainfall amounts, but the general trend is the same. The heaviest rain should be in the northwestern parts of Region 8. Here are two models. This is the latest GFS, which does NOT show the rain...

Severe Weather Possible Tomorrow (Wednesday 12/23/15)

Good evening. As I mentioned on my Facebook LIVE video, I'm pooped! I've driven 1300 miles since Friday. I've had a GREAT time in New Orleans and Nashville though! Sadly, it appears severe weather is interrupting vacation. I've glanced at some data and talked with Justin and Rachel and here are my thoughts in bullet points: We have 2 "waves" of storms. One in the morning and one from lunch to afternoon. Hail is possible in the morning. Strong winds and even tornadoes are possible from lunch to afternoon.  Greatest threat will be East and Southeast of Region 8. Pay attention if traveling to MS, TN, and AL! To get text alerts, type STORM to 52488. Turn on notifications to the KAIT weather app. If travelling, always note what city and county you are in by looking at the highway signs. Then, when you hear them on the radio... you will know if you are in danger.  Threat map: First, let's start with the wave in the morning. This map shows that the most unstable ...
